Wool Felt
Our felt is made in Germany from 100% pure wool - no added synthetics or plastics. This makes it soft to the touch, as well as strong and non-fraying - perfect for your Case Closed Sleeve. It is sustainable and extremely durable. We use wool felt that is aproximately 3mm thick.
How Wool Felt Is Made
Felt is made by a process called wet felting, where the natural wool fibre is stimulated by friction and lubricated by moisture (usually soapy water), and the fibres move at a 90 degree angle towards the friction source and then away again, in effect making little "tacking" stitches. Only 5% of the fibres are active at any one moment, but the process is continual, and so different 'sets' of fibres become activated and then deactivated in the continual process.
How To Clean Wool Felt
This Wool Felt should be spot cleaned with a little soap and water - machine washing is not recommended as it is likely to cause shrinkage.
Soft Ties
Our products are made from 100% soft materials and this extends to our closures. For laptop sleeves we use the finest quality Swiss made soft stretch elastic which adds to the tactile quality of our products as well as being functional. Most importantly, there are no hard parts to scratch or dent your device.
Ultrasuede
In 1970, after years of experimentation, Toray Industries scientist Dr. Miyoshi Okamoto succeeded in creating the world’s first ultra-microfiber. A few months later, his colleague Dr. Toyohiko Hikota perfected a new process capable of transforming Dr. Okamoto’s invention into an amazing new fabric, a non-woven material that combined luxury with unprecedented performance.
How Ultrasuede Is Made
Ultrasuede begins with polymer ultra-microfibers spun so light and fine, a strand measuring more than 50 miles long would weigh less than a gram.These ultra-microfibers are extruded through protective spinnerets, creating what we call the "Islands in the Sea" configuration, with ultra-microfiber filaments "afloat" in each strand.These strands are then transformed via a complex process that includes ironing, curling, cutting and needle-punching into a soft felt-like material which is then impregnated with a special adhesive binder.Once the material is formed, the protective polymer coating is dissolved with a solvent and the material is further processed to create a fabric that is, almost paradoxically, as soft and supple as it is strong and durable. Magnified thousands of times, this cross-section reveals the densely complex yet mono-layer structure of Ultrasuede.The end result: Ultrasuede, a richly complex non-woven fabric offering an unparallelled combination of luxury, appeal, performance and ease of care for an extraordinary array of applications.
How To Look After Your Ultrasuede
A quick once-over with a brush or damp cloth. Periodically, it’s also recommended to vacuum the fabric and then dust it gently but thoroughly with a well-wrung damp cloth or sponge. Take care not to get the fabric too wet. Re dampen your cloth or sponge in clean water, wipe again and let dry overnight. Once completely dry. Rejuvenate the fabric with a gentle brush.
